Manchester United missing key duo as squad for Arsenal clash announced

Manchester United missing key duo as squad for Arsenal clash announced

Manchester United host Arsenal

In the last game of the midweek Premier League clashes, Arsenal travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.

A win for the Gunners, who have lost just one of their last 10 games in the Premier League, would see them move 8 points ahead of the Red Devils, whose new boss Ralph Rangnick will watch from the stands after failing to secure a work visa in time for the game.

Manchester United, who earned a credible draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, need a win to stay amid the early running for European places, while defeat could see them slip into the bottom half of the league should Brentford beat Tottenham at the same time.

Squad update sees United without star man

Manchester United are already known to be missing Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane through injuries, but now have suffered another isssue.

As per the Manchester Evening News, the squad that Michael Carrick has selected for this evening is:

Goalkeepers: De Gea, Heaton, Henderson

Defenders: Bailly, Dalot, Jones, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles

Midfielders: Fernandes, Fred, Mata, McTominay, Van de Beek

Forwards: Amad, Greenwood, Lingard, Martial, Rashford, Ronaldo, Sancho

Should this prove correct, it means that Luke Shaw has once again not managed to recover from a head injury that he suffered 4 weeks ago, and that ruled him out of international duty with England.

In addition, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has not travelled either, which means that Michael Carrick is now working with a threadbare squad in the full-back areas.

This will, in turn, mean Alex Telles will continue to deputise at left-back, something that could come back to haunt Michael Carrick and co. Alternatively, Diogo Dalot could be deployed there, having played at left-back at times during his loan move to AC Milan last season.

By the looks of it however, he could be on duty on the right flank.

Could this hand Arsenal the advantage?
